JUDGE TRAINING COURSE
Kevin MacDonald is an ABC recognized MMA Judge Trainer.
The MMA Judge Training course is a half day (5 hour) program which is designed to teach the MMA enthusaist the difference between watching a fight and scoring a fight. While many think that judging an MMA bout is entirely subjective, there are very specific scoring criteria which must be followed. This course covers each of the four criteria (Clean Strikes Landed, Effective Grappling, Cage/Ring Control, and Effective Aggressiveness) and how to properly score a bout utilizing the criteria. The course will consist of powerpoint presentation with lecture, question and answer discussion, and video analysis. Students are provided with all training materials including a training manual, documentation sheets, laminated "quick-reference"scoring cards, and a Certificate of Completion for recordkeeping. This course is ideally scheduled on the same afternoon as a live MMA event and course cost would include cageside seats to event where students can put their knowledge into action unofficially scoring the bouts and verbalizing how they reached their scores. Upon successful completion of the MMA Judge Training Course, students will, if state regulations permit, be invited to shadow professional MMA judges at a live event(s). At this point students should have the necessary documentation and experience to apply for MMA Judge Licensure with most state commissions.
Course attendees are responsible for understanding, explaining, and identifying common MMA positions and the following submission maneuvers: Anaconda Choke, Arm Triangle Choke, Guillotine Choke, Neck Crank, North South Choke, Rear Naked Choke, Triangle Choke (standard and inverted), Von Flue Choke, D'Arce Choke, Americana Armlock, Arm Bar Submissions, Keylock Submission, Kimura, Omaplata, Wristlocks, Ankle Locks, Figure Four Toehold, Kneebar, and Heel Hooks (inside and outside).
Cost is $175.00 per student, four student minimum. Call or Email for group rates
UPCOMING LEWISTON , MAINE COURSE DETAILS:
On Saturday, February 11th, 2012, the Androscoggin Bank Colisee (http://thecolisee.com) in Lewiston, ME will be the location for an ABC recognized Mixed Martial Arts Judge training program. This course is designed for those who have a strong, functional knowledge of Mixed Martial Arts and would like to take the first step toward becoming a licensed MMA judge. This course will be taught by Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) MMA Officials trainer Kevin MacDonald. The training will utilize lecture, video analysis, live demonstration, and live fight scoring to provide participants the most complete program in MMA officiating instruction. Topics covered range from appearance and ethics to the breakdown of how to properly score a bout. The classroom portion will be held in the conference room at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The live fight scoring will take place that evening at the premier event of the newest New England MMA promotion “Fight Night MMA”. Upon successful completion of this seminar, participants may be invited to shadow licensed judges at future live MMA events. After shadowing professional judges and demonstrating scoring proficiency, prospective judges will have the tools and documentation required for licensure in most states.
The classroom portion of the course will begin at 11:00 am sharp and finish at approximately 4:30pm. Each student will receive their own manual containing course material, bout sheets to provide documentation and proof of experience, as well as certificates of completion upon successfully passing the exam at the end of the day. After the classroom portion, candidates are invited to attend Fight Night MMA at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for the practical application that evening. Here judge candidates will be given the unique opportunity to score live fights in person, while under supervision, feeling free to discuss and ask questions. While attendance to the live event in the evening is not mandatory, I strongly encourage this type of hands-on experience as it is crucial to becoming a proficient MMA judge. While it may seem easy to judge a fight on television, with all the angles and replays, it is much more difficult for the judge with just one vantage point and no commentary while sitting cageside.
Course cost is $175.00
While I cannot guarantee that everyone will succeed as a judge and gain state licensure, I can confidently say that I will provide you with all of the tools necessary and available to give you the best chance for success.
I want to personally thank Promoter Nick DiSalvo for allowing the paid course attendees complimentary admission to his debut event to practice at a live event. It is greatly appreciated and crucial to educating the next generation of MMA judges!
Any currently licensed judge in New England is welcome to attend the course free of charge as a refresher.
